Leaders in entertainment
OSN is the region’s leading entertainment network with rights to broadcast in 24 countries across the MENA. OSN has a history of providing exceptional value for customers with its focus on exclusive, in-demand content and innovative digital platforms for anywhere, anytime access.
OSN’s strength is its unbeatable range of exclusive programming led by its long-term partnerships with studio majors including Disney, HBO, NBC Universal, Fox, Paramount, MGM and Sony to name a few.
The network is home for premium and nowhere-else content in Arabic, English, Filipino and south Asian languages. It broadcasts the latest content at the same minute as in the USA, including popular series, blockbuster movies and the best in kids and lifestyle programming.
The company has been at the forefront of digital technology innovation in the Middle East introducing the first Digital Video Recorder HD, OSN Play – an online TV viewing platform, OSN Plus HD – an internet-enabled satellite receiver and recorder and OSN on Demand, the region’s first VOD service. OSN also expanded its language services when it acquired Pehla Media and Entertainment, offering a variety of channels in several south Asian languages in the MENA region, with content such as Bollywood movies and cricket, including the ICC Cricket World Cup which is highly anticipated this year.
OSN’s ambition is to deliver entertainment everywhere for everyone, which is informed by the company’s three key pillars, namely, customer-first approach, unrivalled exclusive content and unbeatable value.
OSN has three key distribution platforms. In addition to Direct to Home (DTH) via satellite, OSN also offers IPTV services via telecom partners and OTT through WAVO, its online TV streaming service.
Success in IPTV
For over a decade, OSN has been working with telecom partners across the GCC to provide premium TV offering via the telcos’ IPTV platforms. IPTV is a great way to improve reach and ease access to OSN content, leveraging on the telecom operators wide customer bases and strong distribution networks.
OSN’s strong IPTV partnerships provide convenience and quality of service to the end customer. Customers interact with the telco as a one-stop-shop for all their connectivity and entertainment needs. Additionally, the growth of fibre-optic internet and improving bandwidth speeds in the MENA region has enabled IPTV to prosper as the TV experience is seamless and richer with more interactive user experiences.
MENA operators are emulating mature markets and today’s trend is towards offering triple-play bundles whereby pay TV is part of the entry-level proposition which generally includes fixed telephony and broadband. Some operators are going even further experimenting with ‘quad-plays’ which include a mobile plan and entertainment offering that enables a true anywhere and anytime viewing experience which OSN can provide.
5G represents the next growth opportunity in IPTV and OSN is working with key players across the region to ensure customers get the best and exclusive content at great value. Increased connectivity, higher bandwidths and lower operational costs enable OSN and telecom partners to not only increase the addressable base of potential subscribers but to also ease the rollout of innovations which aim to elevate its customers’ TV experience such as AR, VR, 4k/8k and social TV.
OSN’s OTT Platform
In February, a new digital platform offering enhanced features and additional viewing devices went live to significantly enrich OSN’s streaming service ‘WAVO’. Premium exclusive content such as HBO (Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies), leading cricket events from around the world (including the ICC Cricket World Cup), a growing library of box-sets and 27 live TV channels covering both Western and Arabic preferences, are accessible for a monthly subscription starting from just $9.99.
Partnerships with top telecommunications and device brands in the region will allow WAVO to make the most of the fast-growing streaming market across a full-range of distribution channels. There is tremendous potential within the OTT space in the MENA region and with OSN’s long-term experience there is no doubt that WAVO will cater to the entertainment needs of families and the youth across the region.
